About Heather Hopkins
After many years in the motion picture business, my vision of weddings is inspired by a documentary love story in action. Your wedding is not going to be all about smiles faced nice and neat towards the camera. What will matter most will be the unscripted moments that give your life meaning...the light in the groom's eyes as he watches his new wife giggling with her bridesmaids...the life of the party taking a tumble in the middle of the dance floor...dad reaching out for mom’s hand as a tear drops after their daughter kisses her new husband. I feel these moments & I am always honored to be invited into this secret circle of sharing and essentially stop time to record them on film.
I loved working among directors and artists creating movies that brought stories to life. I learned to keep my eyes focused on the natural beauty of emotion within a moment in order to portray it accurately. With my photography, I practice an artsy photojournalistic style and my work has been described as having a certain magazine style. The 'kudos' I receive remind me of how much my ability to be "everywhere" without being known during an event is appreciated. The results of my efforts will be storybooks full of natural & creative moments that mirror the ambiance, unexpected, & bliss of your day.
Your photography package will be directed by your style. I offer innovative and modern coffee-table books, flush-mount and traditional albums. A popular style is my fabric embraced box and album. But the most important aspect of your package will be…me. Because the photographer will be the one vendor you work the longest with (before, during, and after your wedding), it’s so important you go with a photographer you feel comfortable around. My work ethic is very personal, relaxed, fun, and ambitious. I always find new creativeness at each event.
I like to stay on top of what’s new in the photography field so I’m an active member of Wedding and Portrait Photographers International (WPPI), Professional Photographers of America (PPA), and the Wedding Photojournalist Association (WPJA). I’ve placed in the top five in numerous WPJA contests, placed fourth in the 2007 WPJA/Brides Magazine Wedding Photojournalism Contest, and was a finalist in the Wedding Photography Directory’s (WPD) 2007 Annual Professional Wedding Photo Contest.
