I believe that we all have that certain creative outlet that comes natural to us. I find mine to be photography. I was born and raised in Sheboygan, Wisconsin where my jovial personality and Midwest work ethic originate. I caught the travel and photo bug at around the same time back in high school. After high school it felt like photography seemed like the right path to take. I then pursued an education in commercial photography while in Madison, Wisconsin where I started shooting weddings while in school.
After school in 2005 I headed west and transplanted my self to Eugene Oregon and now reside in Portland. The Midwest will always be home and I photograph and visit there often. Once a cheesehead always a cheesehead dontchya know. Over the past couple of years I have found myself traveling to Mexico and other destinations throughout the country to shoot weddings. I consider the Riviera of Mexico near Sayulita to be my home base south of the boarder.
My Photography Approach
For me the wedding often starts before the day with location scouting. This gives me an idea of niches and backgrounds I want to use for portraits. On the big day I think wedding photography should be fun and easygoing. I pride myself on being able to finding that spot in between being thorough without obtrusiveness. Reading the couples body language is part if that. It's there day and I don't want to be the center piece in any way. I'm not that egotistic photographer who has to show that he's the photographer and is in charge. I prefer to let the moments happen but will definitely suggest and let my ideas be heard if I need to make something happen. The style I bring to the table I consider to be a blend classic, joyful, and lasting moments in a modern blend of portrait, photo journalistic, candid and fine art photography.
