About Denise Cregier
Ever since I was a child, I wanted to be a photographer. That, a cartoonist, or a veterinarian. My grandmother gave me my first camera, a 110 Instamatic. I loved it, and I took plenty of pictures of none other, my cat. At 14, my father gave me my first 35mm camera, and it barely left my side. I went on to study Fine Arts with a concentration in photography and painting at New Paltz which is where I developed my personal style. After attending a couple weddings and wishing I was the photographer, I decided to pursue wedding photography. I became instantly intrigued with capturing the stories that go into a wedding day. It has been my passion ever since. I consider photography to be celebrating life through imagery.
I approach each wedding as if it were the only one, because each wedding is unique. I am unobtrusive by nature, and most of my clients do not even realize that I am documenting them throughout the day. This allows me to document emotions and moments that occur naturally for images that have a different look. To me, the best portraits come from people that are not aware that I am photographing them, or are just being themselves without being posed. The entire day I will document the event and look for these unraveling candid moments that are impactful, and tell the story of the day.
I believe it is also important to take some formal portraits of immediate family members and bridal party. I take these portraits with subtle posing. My goal is to quickly capture relaxed portraits in an enjoyable manner for the family and friends. With minimal hands on and direction, I feel I am merely an observer and a medium in which these moments are transferred from life to photographs, which will be cherished for a lifetime.
