Billy Joe Hoyle Wedding Photogapher Bio PortraitAbout Billy

I studied photography at The Southeast Center for Photographic Studies in Florida. It was here that I discovered my love for photographing people, where I could capture life's moments in an artful composition. In my third year I was featured in Shutterbug Magazine as one of the top college photographers in the United States. While attending The S.E. Center I was fortunate enough to travel and hone my skills in countries like Haiti and Mexico.

After graduation I was hired as a contributing photographer for the Chinmaya Mission Project in India. When I returned from India I took my fine art and street photography style and began freelancing. I soon published work in magazines and periodicals such as Photographers Forum and The News Journal. In 2001 I packed up my clothes & cameras and spent six months documenting everyday life in Pakistan. I moved to New York in 2002 and began an internship with Magnum Photos. I was fortunate enough to work with legendary Magnum photographer Burt Glinn.

Much like my documentary projects, I take an artistic approach when it comes to my wedding work. I believe that wedding images should be more than just wedding images. They should not only look great in a wedding album but should also have a gallery quality feel to them. I work to create beautiful, timeless scenes and to capture those unseen moments that you'll cherish for years.

Photography Achievements

  • I won a Leica Award in 2000 and had my work exhibited at the Leica Gallery in New York City.
  • My extensive work in Pakistan and India resulted in the publishing of two books: America Divided: A Journal to War and Bharat India.
  • In 2005 I brought my documentary and magazine style to the world of wedding photography. My wedding images have been featured in Manhattan Bride Magazine and the N.Y. Post.
