Lisa Berry Wedding Photojournalist Bio PortraitAbout Lisa Berry

I studied fine art photography at the Rhode Island School of Design. Before I even had a chance to declare my major in RISD’s Painting program, I had been snagged by the sheer magic of the camera and the darkroom. Venturing out to explore the world with a camera quickly won me to focus my studies on the art of photography. At RISD I gained a Mastery of Photographic Technique as well as a love for the world of contemporary photography.

Much of my best training comes from the hours I have spent pouring over the works of William Eggleston, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Andreas Gursky, Robert Frank, and other masters of the real movement. Along with my favorite painters, they have all helped to shape my photographic sensibilities and inspire me to look for the exquisite moment in real life as opposed to the staged photograph.

My Approach to Wedding Photojournalism

I continue to make fine art, and have also thrown my heart into photographing weddings. Four years of experience with weddings help me to understand the finer details of the celebration. I believe that the photographer is a humble participant in a wedding and not the composer or director of the day. I bring a talented second photographer with me to every wedding, and we work as a team to capture the day.

We approach weddings in a creative documentary style. We will take posed shots of families and the wedding party, but the primary focus of the photography is on the couple and the events of day. I enjoy hunting for details, photographing the larger scene, and capturing important moments, whether planned or spontaneous. I strive for pictures that are natural, beautiful, and real.

I offer an engagement session for clients after booking. This is a time for couples to become comfortable with me as a photographer, and it gives me some time to get to know you and your style. Four legged friends are welcome! All photography is shot in film with a variety of medium format, 35mm, black and white, and color.
