Matt Needham has been interested in the visual arts all of his
life. He became fascinated with photography over a decade ago,
and has been obsessively practicing it ever since. He studies
in his traditional black and white darkroom, as well as the
digital photography lab. Matt is dedicated and passionate about
photography, and continues to learn and explore.
Matt photographs many different
|
subjects including landscapes,
botanicals, live music, and night photography, but photographs of
people are his favorite. Children's portraits have been a primary
subject since he became a father. Immogene Cunningham (one of
Matt's favorite photographers) said "The thing that's fascinating
about portraiture is that nobody is alike." Not only is everyone
unique, but they are constantly growing and changing. With
photography Matt can record the fleeting details in a moment of life.
When Matt Needham creates a photograph he wants it to be both
visually striking and carefully crafted, but he also works to create
portraits that have a sense of life documentary to them. They aren't
just a pretty picture; they are also a personal history.
Matt photographed his first wedding as the primary photographer in
1997, and was immediately taken with the excitement of documenting
two families coming together to celebrate life. He continued to
photograph weddings and portraits through word of mouth until 2003
when he established Matt Needham Photography, and became a full time,
professional photographer. Matt Needham Photography offers a range
of photographic services including portraits, and commercial
photography, but wedding photography is Matt's main focus.
When Matt isn't photographing people you'll find him walking or
biking around Lawrence with his kids, or wandering about the back
roads of Kansas. He's always carrying a camera, and he wants to take
your picture.
