Scott Perham Wedding Photographer Self Portrait - CT, ConnecticutAbout Scott Perham

Scott Perham has been creating art his entire life. Initially focusing on drawing and painting, Scott decided at an early age that he wanted to make art a career. After High School he enrolled in the Fine Art program at Southern Connecticut State University where he began to explore different media and uncover his passion for photography. Though he took numerous photography classes that focused on everything from darkroom technique to composition, Scott credits a lot of what he knows about photography to the lessons he learned in his drawing and painting classes. "My drawing and painting classes really taught me about light, color and composition," he claims. "The same rules apply to making a captivating drawing or painting as they do to creating a captivating photograph. And a lot can be learned from the masters in all of those areas. So when I started focusing on photography, I already had the essential tools to take my art to the next level."

And that's just what he did. After receiving his Bachelors Degree in Studio Art in 1995, Scott relocated to Los Angeles, California to pursue music photography and music journalism. Shortly after arriving in LA, he teamed up the area's leading music magazine Music Connection, and began interviewing and taking photographs of some of the biggest names in the music business. During his nine year tenure in the city of angels, his lens captured the essence of hundreds of world renowned artists ranging from Tony Bennett to the Red Hot Chili Peppers. He also began taking promotional photographs for local bands, and that's when his signature style really reared its head. "My style in wedding photography really traces back to taking pictures of musicians in LA," he states. "I figured... four or five people in a band, four or five people in a wedding party...This could work. I can just make brides and grooms look like rock stars."

After relocating back to CT, Scott immediately brought his unique angle on art to the realm of wedding photography. By combining an outside of the box, photojournalistic approach with non-traditional, interactive posing techniques, Scott created a new brand of wedding imagery for discerning brides and grooms who are looking for something more than the same old thing. In addition to pouring his heart and soul into his images, Scott also "busts his hump" so to speak on the day of the wedding. "Every wedding that I do I have people coming up to me afterward saying things like, 'Man, you were everywhere,' or 'Wow, I didn't see you slow down all day." Well, that's the way it should be, the way I see it," he says. "I understand the importance of my role in this once in a lifetime event, and I'm not going to settle for anything than less than giving it everything I've got. That's what these people deserve, and that's what I'm going to give them."

Wedding Photography Achievement

Scott has recently received a "Best in Show" award at the Summer 2009 CTPPA Print Competition.
