About Robert Norman
Born an only child in Queens NY in 1965, Robert always had an interest in painting, drawing and all things creative – spending numerous hours doodling and sketching while lost in his own little world. His parents grew concerned.
Many years later he pursued this interest in the arts and graduated from New York's Purchase College with a degree in Photography and graphic design, and then spent two years assisting with some of Los Angeles' top photographers. After working with LA's premiere modeling agencies to build his portfolio, Robert hit the road back east in 1987 to settle in Connecticut and begin his long affiliation with agencies in Manhattan and Boston.
The move to wedding photography started very gradually, as friends starting asking for his services at their events. Hesitantly and nearly at gunpoint, he eventually gave in… but soon found that weddings offered an amazing outlet for creativity and personal expression he didn't expect. Robert began focusing heavily on weddings in 1997, and now shoots an average of 35 a year. "The opportunity to hang out with folks on such an important day is amazing." He says, "It's not often people let you into their life in such a personal way. It is a very special honor."
Always looking for ways to keep his work fresh, he takes a solo trip at least once a year to concentrate on personal and landscape work to keep his perspective clean and his head clear.
Photography Achievements
In 1992 Robert's work with "Newman's Own" allowed him the opportunity to photograph actor Paul Newman – whose photos Mr. Newman currently uses for his official "head shot". Photos from the series have also appeared on numerous posters and publications, The Academy Awards as well as on "A&E's Biography." He has also had the good fortune of photographing Jerry Garcia for Ben and Jerrys Ice Cream, Harry Connick Jr. and Al Gore.
His wedding work has appeared in Modern Bride, Greenwich Magazine, Westport Magazine and The Knot, as well as publication overseas. He is a proud member of the National Association of Photoshop professionals. He secretly wishes he owned a dog.
