Effective Pixel Count - Not all pixels on the camera’s sensor are used, and the effective pixel count describes the actual number of pixels that are in fact being utilized on an image sensor.
Electron Gun - The three electron guns that create an image on a screen, monitor or television. Each one of these guns is used for a different color. Red, blue and green.
Electronic TTL Viewfinder - This feature found on most digital cameras is basically a tiny LCD with a lens installed in front of it. This allows for more accurate framing.
Element - This is the term used to describe one individual lens which is a component of a compound lens.
Emulsion - A coating which is sensitive to light. It is found on the surface of film and photographic paper.
EXIF - Exchangeable Image File. This format is used by most digital cameras today.
Exposure - This is how much light the sensor receives. It is determined by how wide and how long the shutter is open.
Exposure Compensation - A tool found on many cameras today which enables the user to set exposure of the camera independently of any other exposure parameter.
External Flash Sync Connection - This enables the photographer to attach a flash to the camera via cable.
