De-Mosaicing - This is a photography process used by the image sensor to determine color. Every pixel can be analyzed by looking at the color of neighboring pixels.

Depth of Field - This is the whole area in an image that is in focus. Out of this area, or distance focus starts getting worse resulting in blur.

Destructive Effects - Permanently damage the image, with no easy way to reverse or undo the effect. This is more common upon traditional photography

Device-Dependent Color Space - An area in an image that displays colors by mixing other colors, meaning that primary colors determine quality or accuracy of the resulting color combinations.

Device-Independent Color Space - This color space saves the color by writing what it looks like, not how it is assembled.

Device Profile - Detailed information about color qualities in a device, also referred to as profile and ICC profile.

Digital Photography - Pictures taken with a digital camera. This uses electronic devices to record the image as binary data.

Digital Watermark - A technique which allows a user to add copyright information to a variety of digital formats such as: video, photo, JPG, and prints.

Digital Zoom - A mechanism on most digital cameras that lets the user zoom in on a subject in an image by locking on the center of the image and blowing it up.

Digitizing - Turning other characters into numbers or digits.

Diopter - Much like the lens used in prescription glasses to combat nearsightedness. This feature allows users operating the viewfinder on the camera in a similar way.

Downsample - Creating a sample image with a much smaller size by getting rid of data.

DPI - The resolution of an image or Dots per inch. DPI is a printing resolution unit of measurement.

Drive - or Continuous Shooting lets you take multiple pictures one right after another in succession. Also know as burst.

Dry-Bag - A waterproof carrying bag that will protect your equipment under water.

Dual-Axis Focusing Zone - This feature analyzes the contrast of an image, both vertically and horizontally.
