8. Jetter - (9/12/2008 11:39:07 AM) To Sam, the #6 post. Are you saying Michele's choice of cropping is not an initial artistic one, but rather a "frame anomaly mitigation"? My other question would be, did Michele take and frame the picture as it, or the cropping is the result of post-production?

6. Sam Chinigo (WPD Member & Contestant) - (9/10/2008 6:24:58 PM) Ooh, I have to disagree with you guys here. First, I think the boy's head was cut off because Michele was trying to keep the b&g in the frame on the left. If she follows the boy..the groom gets cut out. So she was probably limited. If she takes 1 step over to the right and turns to the left, she gets rid of some of that washout section on the upper right, as the b&g would fill more of the background. And, the boy's head would not be cut off. But, if she did that, she may have lost the momentary expression...which really makes this shot...so she chose to take the shot. Sometimes you have to take what the photo gods will give ya. ;-) Secondly, the b&g are just too much out of focus here and the background totally competes for attention. They look like something out of the x-files! With that said, great moment and I would have loved to get this shot. The expression on the boy's face is priceless.
5. Shutter453 - (8/22/2008 8:37:27 AM) The subject matter of framing and the use of positive and negative space always amuses me, as it's a topic we could argue all day. I have mixed feelings about this photo, but can't deny it really make me think about the technical possibilities.
4. JoaneSM - (7/28/2008 8:31:05 PM) I'm actually a fan of how the boy's head is cropped-off, it really makes you wonder about why the photographer decides to do so... perhaps the cropping is an indication of the boy's "exit" off to the right side of the frame.... after all, the boy is not the "focus" of this photo, but rather the couple that's currently out of focus, and about to enter to the frame from the background. Interesting and non-orthodox choice for cropping! Brovo I say, it's different.
3. Anna Lee - (7/28/2008 8:20:04 PM) I don't like that part of the boy's head has been cut off - looks awkward.
2. Caroline Ghetes (WPD Member & Contestant) - (7/28/2008 5:56:33 PM) I love this photo! The timing was perfect on it, and the lighting also works very well. I like that you chose to do this one in black and white also. The only thing that I noticed was the top of the little boy's head being cut off from the side of the photo and I think it would have been more aesthetically pleasing if it weren't cropped off. Other than that, great photo!
